Prior Update!!!

News came out that the Texas Rangers have taken a role in the Mark Prior comeback!  The Pre-Strasburgian flame-throwing pitcher who came up with the Cubs and has dealt with several injuries over his career has signed a minor league deal with the Rangers, with the future, not 2010, in mind.

Just another reminder that the Kip Wells Comeback Trail really works, friends!

Strasburg Can't Suck It Up, Dibs

In response to Rob Dibble's relentless badgering about playing through the pain, Stephen Strasburg is going to be shut down for the rest of the season.... and most of 2011, with Tommy John surgery.  Turns out that strained flexor tendon is a lot worse than initially thought.  That cry you heard in Washington, D.C. was not the petty arguments going back and forth across the aisle on Capitol Hill, it was both of the Nationals' fans realizing that 2010 and 2011 would be wasted years.... again....

Pretty soon, we may be seeing Strasburg on the Mark Prior/Kip Wells comeback trail.

Kip Wells is on the Comeback Trail!!!

MLB Trade Rumors reported that the long-awaited comeback by pitcher Kip Wells is underway!  I know, I know, who the heck is Kip Wells?  Wells is perhaps best remembered (at least in my book) less than successful 2007 campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he went 7-17 in spite of a sparkling 5.70 ERA.  If only the offense gave him more run support.

Wells will be pitching with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of "Professional" Baseball where he will be able to face top-notch competition from the Bridgeport Bluefish, Lancaster Barnstormers and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

Ducks manager, Dave LaPoint, who apparently has never heard of Baseball-Reference.com, said, "We are extremely happy to add Kip... to our pitching staff. [He has] proven to be successful at the big league level."

Let's face it, with a name like "Kip," he doesn't have much of a chance.  At least he's only getting beat up on the mound these days... presumably...

Halladay Returns to Toronto... Sorta

For the first time since being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in the offseason, Roy Halladay took the mound against his former team, the Toronto Blue Jays.  It was Halladay's first appearance in Toronto as a member of the opposing team.  To mark the occasion, the Blue Jays decided to make it easier for Halladay by playing the home game in Philadelphia, allegedly because of the G20 Summit (yeah, like that's a real thing!)

The Blue Jays also made it easier on Halladay by barely swinging the bat, getting only 6 base hits in Halladay's 7 innings.  Jays CF Vernon Wells: "We really wanted to do all we could to make this a pleasant experience for Doc.  He's just been such an important part of this organization for so long."
